Bobby Barnes

ABOUT ME

From Alexandria, Virginia, Bobby Barnes recently graduated from George Mason University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music. He is a tenor and a music teacher. He teaches piano and voice.

He believes in teaching students aural skills along with piano and/or voice. Bobby believes that anyone can learn to sing or play an instrument with proper training, commitment, and discipline. He also plans to create music compositions, particularly vocal and choral music.

In the summer of 2015, Bobby performed in an opera and a musical, playing Bernardo in West Side Story and Mischa in The Bartered Bride at the Bethesda Summer Music Festival.  He hopes to play more roles in the future in order to gain more musical performance experience.

Bobby currently lives in Manassas, Virginia, where he works as a music teacher for Prince William County Schools and teaches voice and piano at Opus.

His teaching style for voice begins with learning proper health, posture, and breathing as these are the foundations for vocal learning, Bobby loves teaching piano and his lessons are fun and well structured, he prepare his students in music theory as well.
He enjoys Classical music, from his favorite musicians like Schumann, Liszt, Debussy, Margaret Bonds, and John Jacob Niles, and Contemporary Christian music, from musicians like rappers Lecrae and Trip Lee, singers V. Rose, Brooke Fraser, Amy Grant, Lacey Sturm, and Switchfoot.

``Music is a social act of communication among people, the strongest gesture of friendship there is.``
